Hey, thanks for tuning in to this in-depth review and styling tutorial of BluMaan’s Cavalier Heavy Clay.
This review is sure to answer any questions that you might have about the product.
To save your guys’ time, I’ll be breaking this review and styling tutorial of Blumaan’s Cavalier Clay down into a few parts. You can skip to whatever part is most relevant (most likely the product review, so skip about halfway down the page), but I’d hope you stick around for the whole thing! First, I’ll be introducing my own hair type so you guys have a reference point to how this product performs. Then I’ll go into the performance of the product and finish off by teaching how this product will work for other hair types.
My Hair Type
So firstly! My hair type. I’m an Asian guy so I understand the struggle a lot of us go through with poofy hair that loves to stick up. My hair is fairly wavy, and definitely thick. My hair does not like to cooperate despite being wavy & not nearly as stiff as some Asian hair. Once in a certain shape, the only way to make it restyle is to wash my hair with shampoo & conditioner and completely “reset” my hair. Not to mention, it also gets frizzy without quality products that can really nourish my hair to make it as healthy as possible. So, imagine something like the hairstyle above, except dark brown/black.
TL;DR, I have thick, wavy, frizzy Asian hair and I am currently wearing it in a short-medium length forward quiff that was inspired by BluMaan himself! So check out his video on how he styles his short quiff because that’s basically how I do it too.
Cavalier Heavy Clay Review
Now onto the product. Cavalier Clay by BluMaan is on the heavy side of clays. This means the product is denser and will add more weight & body to your final hairstyle. It will take a little effort scooping the product out of the jar because of its density, but often times, some of the best clays I’ve used feel like this. This may be a deal breaker for some of you, but I guarantee that if you can get past the initial scooping out, break down, and application of the product, you will not be disappointed in the final result.
So, because of the thickness of the product, it will take a little effort to emulsify it between your hands before applying. After strenuously emulsifying the product, it should look almost as if there’s nothing on your palms. The application process can cause some slight tugging at your hair as the clay binds on to give your hair the hold, texture, and body that it will ultimately provide. So after rubbing the product thoroughly throughout damp or dry hair and shaping it into the look you want, it will set fairly quickly.
The finish it gives should be one that gives a natural healthy sheen to your hair from the natural healthy oils the product includes; it definitely is not a dry, matte clay. You should have a good amount of texture & separation, and definitely a high amount of hold, volume, and body that is especially noticeable if you usually have thinner hair that likes to lay flat. Though the initial process can be more difficult than other softer products, the finish is one that not many products can give, and to me, that makes this product well worth using. Especially since the finish is combined with ingredients like argan & jojoba oil that help to nourish & strengthen my hair.
So now that we know this product works amazingly well on thick, wavy, stiff Asian hair, let’s look at how it will work for other individuals and other hair types! If anyone has checked out the BluMaan channel, you’d know that it works amazingly on Joe’s slightly wavy, thick, softer hair. So how about for you guys with thin hair, or really wavy hair, or very fine hair. For all you guys, I got you covered.
Thin hair guys, this would be a perfect product to use a little bit for added texture & body, and for building in some volume. Keep in mind that due to the heaviness, a little will go a long way for you guys. Too much will only weigh your hair down instead of helping to keep your hair held up all day. Ultimately, start with a little and work your way up until you find the perfect amount of product that provides all day hold without weighing your hair down.
I’ve got wavy hair too and I think it is a great product for helping to accentuate our natural waves, while giving us the hold we need to help tame them all day long. If you want a straighter hair look, simply brush your hair more during the styling process to straighten our strands, and let the hold this product gives go from there. This works perfectly if you’ve got thick wavy hair, but if you do have thinner hair, refer to my advice above for guys with thin hair; a little will go a long way.
Now, guys with very fine hair. This one is tricky because you may have thick or thin fine hair, and typically your hair would be naturally softer and easier to work with. This product will work similarly for you as thin hair guys, a little goes a long way. Heavier products in general typically aren’t the best for fine hair, but play around with the amount you use and apply it to slightly damp hair for an easier, smoother application. This clay definitely has what it takes to give you a good look, it’ll just take a little practice.
Cavalier Heavy Clay is a versatile clay product that will work for most hair lengths and many hairstyles. Whether its a short quiff, a messy pompadour, or a side swept undercut, Cavalier can provide that oomph your hair needs. It gives fantastic hold, good texture, excellent body and thickness, all while nourishing your hair with healthy oils.
